Call for Papers EXTENDED!
The Underwater Mining Institute is seeking presentations focused on the following topics:
-Environmental baseline and monitoring technologies and results
-Benefit cost evaluations of seabed versus land-based mining for specific commodities
-Strategies and methodologies for achieving sustainable seabed mining projects
-Others of relevant and timely interest to seabed minerals
The 2012 UMI will be hosted by Tongji University in Shanghai, China, October 15-21, 2012. Abstracts must be submitted by May 31, 2012. Full details including deadline dates are available on the UMI Author's Information page.

SME Registered Members Now Recognized under Canadian National Instrument 43-101
In April 2010, the Canadian Securities Administrators released the long-awaited revisions to NI 43-101 and companion policy for comment. SME Registered Members have been accepted as a Recognized Foreign Association. The revisions and companion policy are final and as a consequence, SME Registered Members can serve as Qualified Persons as of June 30, 2011. Qualified Persons will also have to meet project-specific experience and responsibility requirements for Technical Reports and other disclosure.
