Colorado Section  

The Colorado Section is a legally constituted unit of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc., encompassing a specific geographical area. Our members are given the opportunity to network with their peers and hear valuable presentations through our activities.

Schedule of Meetings & Events 2010-2011

Section meetings at the University Club* with a speaker are planned for the third Thursday of the month as follows: 

SME COLORADO SECTION SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER GOLF TOURNAMENT

SME's 2010 Scholarship Fundraiser Golf Tournament will be held Friday Sept. 10, 2010 at the beautiful Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden.  This event historically helps to fund over $10,000 per year in scholarships for students at the Colorado School of Mines and other Colorado engineering programs.  Let's have some fun while helping to encourage more graduates to join the mining industry.  Shotgun Start at 1:00 pm.

Costs: $600 for foursomes; $160 for individuals.

Price includes 18 holes of golf at one of the area's best courses, golf carts per foursome, a bucket of range balls per person, and a barbecue buffet.

Sponsorships are open for holes, holes-in-one, dinner, and the driving range.

Please contact Cathy Begej (CathyBegejSME@Gmail.com or 720-889-6112) for meal reservations by Tuesday NOON prior to each meeting. Reservations will NOT be taken after NOON on Tuesday to allow the meeting planners to organize the room layout and to plan meals.  * Please note:  No shows will be billed for reservations not cancelled 24 hours prior to the meeting. 

* Denver's University Club's dress code is "Business Casual": NO jeans are permitted.

  • There are adjacent parking lots and street parking in the area of the University Club (17th & Sherman). For parking information go to Experience Downtown Denver.com

  • Parking:  Parking is available in lots to the south of the University Club and at other nearby locations in the neighborhood.  There is no charge for parking in the surface lot south of the University Club (corner of 16th and Sherman) after 4:00 pm.

CSM Student Section:

The CSM SME student chapter is an active organization on campus working to raise awareness about mining within the community, as well as on campus. We organinze many different activities to improve networking with industry professionals as well as to build relationships between companies and our members.  

We hold officer meetings on Mondays from noon to 1 PM on the CSM campus. With any questions about our chapter please contact Student Chapter President Collin Smith at cosmith@mymail.mines.edu or Vice President Sarah Jones sjones@mines.edu.
