For the paper “Effect of Regional Stresses on a Large Diameter Raise Bored Shaft at RAG’s Twentymile Coal Company” presented at the 2004 SME Annual Meeting, Denver, Colorado
Charles (Rocky) Thompson is the Sr. Geologist for Twentymile Coal Company located in Oak Creek, Colorado. He has a B.S. and Masters degree in Geology. He started his geologic career with Utah International in 1979 as a coal exploration geologist working in four eastern states. From late 1983 to the present, he has held various geology positions for Peabody Energy’s predecessors RAG and Cyprus Amax. During this time, he provided assistance to mining operations in CO, KY, UT, WY, and assistance with major acquisitions within the U.S. and Australia. From 1986 to the present, he has directly overseen the geologic and geotechnical requirements at longwall mining operations in Colorado.
