Awarded To: Robert J. Farmer
"In recognition of engineering professionalism in the coal industry"
Robert Farmer is a senior engineer and director of computer modeling with the John T. Boyd Co. He has been with the company since 1988. Farmer has a B.S. degree in Mining Engineering from the Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada. He has extensive computer training in geologic modeling, resource estimation, underground and opencast mine design, and production scheduling. He has expertise in modeling base metals, coal, gold and industrial minerals using MineScape, MineSight, Vulcan, Whittle and other software packages.
Farmer has assisted mining companies in implementing systems to improve operating efficiency. He is also a recognized expert in computerized geoscience modeling.
The J. W. Woomer Award (formerly the Young Engineer Award) established in 1976, brings recognition of engineering professionalism to young people working in the coal industry.
