"In recognition of significant contributions within the Mineral Processing/Extractive discipline"
Anthony K. M. Staley graduated with a B.S. in Chemical and Petroleum-Refining Engineering with a minor in business management and economics from the Colorado School of Mines in 1997. Upon graduation, he worked as a process engineer in the semiconductor industry until 1998 when he received a grant from Kaiser Aluminum to pursue graduate education. As a result of his graduate studies at the Colorado School of Mines he received a Masters Degree in Economics and Business (Engineering and Technology Management) and a Ph.D. in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (Physiochemical Processing and Extractive Metallurgy) in 2002. In 2002 he joined the Newmont Mining Corporation Technical Services team at the Malozemoff Technical Facility as a senior metallurgist where he manages a team of metallurgical technicians. His work for Newmont includes technical support for processing facilities and metallurgical testing and process development of new ore bodies. These functions involve development of innovative technologies and ore processing techniques including empirical investigation, execution and analysis, process equipment selection and sizing, and project economics.

Staley is active in SME and was appointed to the SME Young Leaders Committee in 2004. Additionally, he has served as a director and secretary for the Colorado SME local section and is currently the vice chair. He is also active in The Minerals Metals and Materials Society and was selected as a TMS Young Leader. He has published several papers on topics ranging from electrochemical processing to mathematical sampling theory protocol. He is an involved member of the SME, TMS, American Chemical Society and the MMSA.
