The 2005 M&E Distinguished Service Award  

Awarded To: Kadri Dagdelen

"In recognition for outstanding contributions to the M&E Division"
Dr. Kadri Dagdelen is currently professor in the Mining Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines. He has been a faculty member at the CSM since 1992 where he has been teaching and performing research in the area of ore reserve estimation, geostatistics, open pit mine planning and optimization. He is currently the Director of Center for Resource Estimation, Strategic Mine Planning and Optimization at the CSM. He was manager of Technical Services at Homestake Mining Company before joining CSM as a faculty member. He has been working with SME’s M&E division since 1989 when he chaired his first annual meeting session on open pit mine planning. Since then, he has served in SME’s Mining and Exploration (M&E) Division’s unit committees such as Operations Research and Open Pit Mining and also as the secretary of the Division, as a member of the team that put together 2003 annual meeting, Jackling and Saunder Gold Metal award committees and as the president of M&E Division in 2004. He has also served in SME’s Research Council, Mining Engineering, Book Publishing, and Nominating committees as well as being a faculty advisor to CMS’s SME Student Chapter in early 1990’s. He is currently serving SME as a member of Board of Directors. Dr. Dagdelen has also participated in the organization of major international symposia, including APCOM where he served as the chairman of APCOM international council and 1999 APCOM symposium. Dr. Dagdelen is also recognized expert in geostatistical resource estimation, open pit mine planning, cutoff grade and scheduling optimization serving as a technical consultant to major mining projects worldwide.

About The M&E Distinguished Service Award:

The Mining & Exploration Division Service Award, established in 1985, honors members of SME (with the exception of all M&E Division Officers at the time they hold office) who have made outstanding contributions to the M&E Division in its programs or other activities.
