The 2007 Environmental Distinguished Service Award 
Awarded To: Fredrick B. Henderson III
Dr. Henderson has a BS in Geology (’57) and MS in Petroleum Geology (‘60) from Stanford and a Ph.D. in Economic Geology and Geochemistry for Harvard (’66), and served in US Navy 1957-1959. He was employed by St. Joe Lead and Kaiser Aluminum as a mining and exploration geologist in North and South America 1965-1972, and worked on geothermal geochemistry at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories 1974-1976.
Henderson co-founded and was President of the Geosat Committee, Inc. supported by 150 major international petroleum, mining and engineering companies from 1976-1993. Geosat voiced industry’s needs and demonstrated capabilities for improved satellite sensing for geological and oceanographic applications. Since 1993, Dr. Henderson has been a full time partner with HENDCO SERVICES (Established in 1972) providing exploration, remote sensing, mining environmental and geothermal services.
During the 1990’s, Henderson, a 25 year + member of SME, was a founding Director of the SME Environmental Division and served as its Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman. As such, Henderson served for two years on the SME Board of Directors. In addition, Henderson was twice a SME Distinguished Lecturer.
Henderson is currently working as Chief Scientist for M., Princeton Geothermal LLC developing a geothermal energy program in Chaffee County, Colorado
The Environmental Division Distinguished Service Award, established in 2001, recognizes members who have significantly contributed to the workings of SME and the Environmental Division and have an outstanding reputation for professionalism and accomplishment.
