The 2013 MEC Partnership Appreciation Award

Awarded To: Women in Mining Foundation

Women In Mining Education Foundation was officially incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) organization in 1993.  Our mission is five-fold:

  • To educate students, teachers and the general public about the importance of minerals.
  • To develop and distribute mineral education materials.
  • To obtain funding for these and other projects that will carry out this mission.
  • To partner with groups to further mutual education goals.
  • To assist Women In Mining Chapters to further education efforts.

Our mission is carried out through a variety of venues including teacher workshops, classroom visits, partnerships with other educational groups and our Website www.womeninmining.org.  The Website offers numerous hands-on activities, games and basic information about minerals and rocks that can be downloaded for free.

We have developed many of these hands-on activities including “Minerals Through Geography” which was granted a copyright. Educators always receive permission to download it at no cost.  Many of our activities were chosen by the National Science Teachers Association for their “Sci-Link” Program.  This is a partnership between progressive U.S. textbook publishers and the NSTA which assures educators that the material has passed an extensive review and meets the current National Science Standards.

All our Foundation Directors are volunteers and devote numerous hours in furthering the work of the Foundation.
