The 1972 Daniel C. Jackling Award 
Awarded To: John B. Knaebel
For his skillful use of engineering and administrative skills in the mining industry and in public service, for his bold, innovative approach to mine development and materials handling, for his leadership in establishing conservation practices and for his lecture, 'New Mines and New Men'.
The Daniel C. Jackling Award, established in 1953, and funded by AIME, is presented for significant contributions to technical progress in mining, geology, and geophysics.
