The 2002 M&E Outstanding Young Professional Award  

Awarded To: Dayan J. Anderson

In recognition for meritorious accomplishments as a young professional working in the mining and exploration industry.
Dayan R. Anderson is a 1997 graduate from the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) with a B.S. in Mining Engineering. Anderson recently joined Specialty Minerals Inc. (SMI), a subsidiary of Minerals Technologies Inc. In her role as quarry engineer, she will manage the mine planning, core drilling, permitting, reclamation and other quarry operations for the Lucerne Valley plant in Southern California. Before joining SMI, Anderson served seven years with Cleveland-Cliffs in various capacities including ore control, shift foreman and senior mine engineer.

Anderson was selected as an SME Future Leader in 2000 and received the M&E Division Outstanding Young Professional Award in 2002. She has served in various roles with the CSM Student Chapter, M&E Division, the Student Member Affairs Committee, Upper Peninsula Section and the Young Leaders Committee. Anderson currently serves on the Sustainable Development Committee, as Vice-Chair Publications for the M&E Division, and volunteers as the Piper for the annual MPD Scotch Breakfast. Anderson is also a member of the Women's Mining Coalition, Women in Mining and the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America.

The M&E Outstanding Young Professional Award, established in 1996, recognizes the meritorious accomplishments of a young individual working in the mining and exploration industry (including related academic and governmental careers).
