7th Australian Workshop on Acid and Metalliferous Drainage
SMI Knowledge Transfer, a unit within JKTech Pty Ltd, is pleased to advise details for the 7th Australian Workshop on Acid and Metalliferous Drainage. The Workshop will be held in Darwin, Northern Territory, from 21-24 June 2011. Prior to the Workshop, an Introductory Course on Acid and Metalliferous Drainage will be held on 20 June 2011. Acid and Metalliferous Drainage (AMD), sometimes referred to as ‘acid mine drainage’ (AMD) or ‘acid rock drainage’ (ARD) is the single most important environmental issue for the world-wide mining industry. In spite of considerable progress in areas such as waste characterisation, acid drainage treatment and management, and the expenditure of significant amounts of money to remediate sites affected by AMD, it is apparent that AMD still presents many challenges for mining companies. The workshop theme, “Emerging Trends in AMD Management”, emphasises the need for companies to learn from observations and
advances in practical long term AMD management including assessment of AMD risk at pre-feasibility stages of projects, implications of climatic extremes, integration of appropriate emerging technologies and research in AMD planning and management into life-of-mine planning and beyond.
