AIMS 2013 - Mineral Resources and Mine Development

Within the framework of AIMS (Aachen International Mining Symposia) the Institute of Mining Engineering I is pleased to announce the FOURTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM MINERAL RESOURCES AND MINE DEVELOPMENT 22 - 23 May, 2013 Aachen, Germany

EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS approx. 350 persons

  • Practitioners
  • Manufacturers
  • R&D Organizations and Academia
  • Administration, Government
  • Scientific / Technical Press
  • Undergraduate, Graduate and PhD Students
Since the first AIMS Symposium in the year 1987, the Symposium has become a regular meeting of international ground control and rockbolting experts.
Industrialized countries' economies heavily rely on the continuous supply of mineral raw materials. The mining sector world-wide has to improve the mining processes, the technology and the efficiency to cope with the increasing demand of the industrialized countries as well as the emerging markets. This goes hand in hand with addressing the global challenge of sustainable development in mining.

Consequently the Symposium on Mineral Resources and Mine Development focuses on two interacting thematic areas – mining processes and technology as well as sustainable development of mineral resources.
Thus, the first thematic area of the Symposium – MINE DEVELOPMENT – focuses on the physical development of mining projects:
  • Mine Planning, Organization and Logistics
  • Continuous Mining Technologies for Hard-Rock Applications
  • Machine Technology and Equipment
  • Operational Experiences
  • Future Technological Options
  • Mining Processes and Resource Efficiency
Additionally, the second thematic area of AIMS 2013 – MINERAL RESOURCES – focuses on sustainable development and supply of mineral resources and related topics:
  • Mining Policies, Strategies and Concepts
  • Mineral Resources Management and Supply Situation (incl. Critical Raw Materials)
  • Legal Aspects, Permits and Financing
  • Environmental Challenges and Approaches
  • Views, Statements and Needs of Governments, Sectors and Enterprises
Against the background of the imperial city of Aachen, both the exhibition at the Conference venue and the dinner party in the historical Aula Carolina will offer ample opportunity to make new contacts and renew old ones.

The Organizing Committee invites international experts to submit an abstract of their presentation via the Symposium website at
The Abstract should include following details:
  • Paper title
  • Short summary of the paper (up to 400 words)
  • Name, address and email contact of author
Peer Review is available upon request.

The acceptance of an abstract implies that at least one of the authors must attend the Symposium and present the paper. Authors are required to register for the Symposium to present their papers.

Abstracts have to be sent to the Symposium Secretariat before 22 October, 2012.
The authors will be notified regarding the acceptance of their paper and will receive detailed instructions on paper submission before 22 November, 2012.
The camera ready manuscripts for the proceedings will be required before 22 February, 2013.

The proceedings will be published in the "Aachen International Mining Symposia Series” with an edition of 400 copies in one volume with approx. 600 pages.
The proceedings (hardcopy and digital format) will be available to the participants at the time of the Symposium.
