Chicago Section 
The Chicago Section is a legally constituted unit of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc., encompassing a specific geographical area. Our members are given the opportunity to network with their peers and hear valuable presentations through our activities.
Mission Statement
The Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc. (SME) advances the worldwide mining and minerals community through information exchange and professional development. The Chicago Section of SME embraces this mission with a commitment to provide our members with high-quality, technologically advanced educational programming and by maintaining the following goals:
- The Chicago Section of SME will be a premier society for all professionals in the local and regional mining and minerals community.
- The Chicago Section of SME will be a primary source of timely mining and minerals information for its members and an important source to the general public.
- The Chicago Section of SME will be financially sound, utilizing section funds to promote the mission and goals of the Section and SME.
The local section is a legally constituted unit of SME, encompassing a specific geographical area. Sections help enhance the professional development of their members and provide local service to the public. The geographic area covered by the Chicago Section situated in the Heartland Region of SME generally includes Northern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana.
