The National organization of SME continues to update the CO Section board with various materials and opportunties. The link to the SME Traveling Show powerpoint presentation will provide you information on the changes taken place at the National SME over the past couple of years, their financial and demographical status, and the products/services they provide the public, as well as our members. Then check out their website to see for yourself all the information available to you.
As Chair, over the past year I have received grant applications, membership guidance materials, announcements of award nominations and an updated Section manual. I don't know if this is a new practice, but for a new Section, Officer or Board members these tools are invaluable. KJass
In the past year, which we recieved:
The opportunity to apply for "grant" money from the National Organization. We were approved for $3000 of matching grant funds towards our contributions to CMA's Total Concept of the Mining Industry teachers course and the CSM student chapter's participation in the International Mining Competition in Australia.
Monthly updates on the numbers of Section members. As of November 30, 2009, the CO Section has 1198 members (these are established by zip code - see our bylaws with counties denoted), with 185 new members joining the Section since January 2009. This is an 18.3% increase - pretty nice increase. However, just so you know the fastest growing sections are: Lima-Peru up 74%, Grand Canyon up 35%, and North Pacific up 34%.
An most recently a copy of the Membership Development manual which inlcudes the list of contacts at SME, examples of nice websites (our Golf recap was included!), and gives hints on how to recruit and retain members. Again, a great tool for our Section's Board of Directors.
