During the 2010 SME Annual Meeting, February 28-March 3, the Foundation Trustees will hold their traditional Foundation Dinner Dance on Sunday, February 28th. However, this year they are adding a bit of a twist. You can look forward to an evening filled with great food, a more casual theme: Boots ‘n’ Heels (no ties please), a live auction, live dance music and much more. The activities we have planned will provide you with an opportunity to relax and enjoy the evening while supporting our fund raising efforts and taking part in the vision for the SME Foundation’s future. We extend our gratitude to Freeport-McMoRan for hosting this exciting evening. Please purchase tickets for this event on your SME Annual Meeting registration form or by calling 303-948-4224.
The Trustees will be available throughout the entire Annual Meeting at their centrally located booth (#1513) in the exhibit hall. Trustees will be available to meet members, explain our mission and current activities and receive valuable feedback. We will also be holding our annual silent auction which, I am proud to announce, is going to be something you certainly will not want to miss!
Again this year, the Foundation has teamed up with the Pebble Partnership to offer an exciting visit to a planned mining operation in remote Alaska. The four-person, guided tour includes:
- Round trip airfare for four to Anchorage.
- A two-night hotel stay in Anchorage.
- Round trip airfare from Anchorage to Iliamna.
- A day visit to the Pebble Project, including a helicopter tour of the deposit area and drill pads.
New this year is a trip/tour for four to the Carlin Trend Mine in Nevada, donated by Newmont Mining Corp. During this tour you will:
- Peer hundreds of feet down into a vast open pit to see some of the industry’s largest machines hard at work, each moving thousands of tons of ore 24 hours a day.
- Get a rare pit-side view of a blast.
- Get an even rarer look at a gold pour.
- Descend almost 2,000 feet below ground for a look at Leeville, Newmont’s flagship underground mine on the Carlin Trend.
- Cap off your tour of Elko with a stop at the Western Folklife Center.
Along with these spectacular trips, the Foundation will also be offering amazing mineral samples, mining memorabilia, equipment models, beautiful artworks, and much, much more! Through the generosity of Bucyrus International, the Foundation will also raffle a 52” LCD TV and Blu-ray disc player during the meeting. The winner need not be present to win. Plan on getting your tickets at the Foundation booth (#1513) or directly from one of the Trustees.
The 2010 SME Foundation Dinner Dance and Auction will prove to be both fun and rewarding as we work together to support the Foundation programs and in turn support our industry. We look forward to seeing you in Phoenix.
