This is the premiere event for hydrometallurgy and applications. Once again, the three Societies of SME, TMS and CIM are jointly coordinating this event. There will be one plenary session of five papers Monday morning with John Marsden, David Dew, John Canterford and Gordon Bacon participating in the morning and the guest of honor, Bob Shoemaker, presenting at lunch. These plenary talks will be followed by three concurrent sessions through until Wednesday afternoon, each with six to seven papers. The 15 sessions will cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to:
- fundamentals
- biotechnology
- leaching (including pressure oxidation, pressure leaching, and solution mining)
- environmental applications involving, e.g minor elements and cyanide
- solution concentration and purification by adsorption, ion exchange, and solvent extraction
- cyanide and alternatives for precious metal extraction and recovery
- chloride and other lixiviants in base metal extraction and recovery
- process development and modeling
- thermodynamic and kinetic evaluations
- plant practices and innovations, including scale-up
- Waste treatment and minimization
- waste water and resource recovery
- electrometallurgy, including cementation and corrosion
- process mineralogy and characterization
- future role of hydrometallurgy, economic evaluations, and pyrometallurgical comparisons
