Minor Elements 2000: Processing and Environmental Aspects of As, Sb, Se, Te, and Bil will give you an improved understanding of the minor elements to help you compete in this global environment, stay profitable and satisfy environmental imperatives. Experts discuss the major issues such as environmental technologies, gold process technologies, mineral and metallurgical applications, markets and production, and concepts and fundamentals.

You will learn how treatment and production technologies have been improved, and new technologies are being implemented and developed. To do this however, investigators had to first understand how the minor elements behaved under different conditions (for example: pH, redox, chemistry, temperature, pressure, and radiation) and then understand how technologies could be adapted/invented to accommodate changes in those conditions. Another important consideration is the costs of the technologies (i.e., material selection and operation and maintenance) considered along with an understanding of the markets.


Because mining operations have come to be less profitable when relying solely on primay commodities such as gold or copper, this volume presents thirty-seven papers from the eponymously named symposium on the environmental and processing aspects of mining by-products such as arsenic As), antimony (Sb), selenium (Se), tellurium (Te), and Bismuth (Bi). Five sessions of the symposium were held: environmental technologies, gold process technologies, mineral and metallurgic applications, markets and production, and concepts and fundamentals. Specific topics addressed include antimony and arsenic extraction from sulfides pretreated by techanochemical processing, the deportment of selenium and tellurium during the electrorefining of copper, and thermodynamic properties of environmental arsenic species.
