The incidence and potential severity of traffic related incidents in surface mining operations indicate that operating mobile machinery poses a significant hazard to the workforce. Mine road design considerations are often inadequately addressed and this training will assist personnel to identify and apply the safest strategies in road design as a means of reducing exposure to mobile machinery related incidents. Skills developed in this training will also enable participants to evaluate their current haul road systems, recognise operational inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement strategies to reduce hazards across the mine road network and improve road performance on a day-to-day operational basis.
In this course, the principles of surface mine haul road design and construction are presented. The course covers design principles, field specification, evaluation and implementation practice for;
- Geometric design
- Structural and layerworks design
- Functional design, incorporating wearing course material selection and dust palliative selection and management
- Maintenance management, together with haul road benchmarking and performance evaluation techniques.
The skills developed in this Course will enable participants to;
- Develop basic design parameters for mine haul roads
- Evaluate their current haul road systems
- Identify and implement appropriate strategies to minimise and manage rolling resistance and total cost per ton hauled.
This course presents chapter assessments throughout the course. This course contains links to additional useful material.
There is no final assessment.
CEU/PDH is based upon course completion and a certificate is awarded upon completion.
