This landmark publication distills the body of knowledge that characterizes mineral and metallurgy as disciplinary fields. More than 192 internationally recognized experts contributed to the handbook’s two volumes and 128 impressive chapters.

  • Americans will need more than three million pounds of minerals in their lifetime

    The Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) has released the iconic “Mineral Baby” graphic for 2019 that reflects an increase of more than 2,000 pounds annual per capita usage when compared with the previous year’s statistics. MEC annually calculates the amount of minerals and energy fuels that are consumed in the average lifetime of an American born in the current year.

  • SME Announces Test Dates for Certified Mine Safety Professional Certification Exams

    The successful mine safety and health professional must possess a wealth of professional knowledge and experience to effectively perform their duties and keep others safe. The Certified Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) credential indicates to the industry that a safety professional has the experience and knowledge of domestic and international best practices, and that they are dedicated to elevating safety and health standards on the job. SME acquired the responsibility for the CMSP credential in 2016.
