Five Top Teams in SME Move Mining Competition

Campaign seeks to improve perception of the mining industry

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce the five top teams that will be heading to the final competition during the 2017 SME Annual Conference & Expo and CMA 119th National Western Mining Conference in February, 2017. Forty teams from 24 states and 7 countries submitted concept papers with their ideas on how to visualize the message, and then convey it to the world. The competition will be streaming live on SME Facebook and the winning team will receive a $5,000 cash prize.

The five teams participating in the final competition are:

  • Miles of Smiles
  • Team Atwood
  • Queen’s Univ. Mining Dept. Group 5
  • Wasatch Wonders

Mr. Matt Bender, Director of Metallurgy and Mining & Minerals Business Development, Samuel Engineering, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of industry leaders and communication experts at the SME Annual Conference & Expo on Feb. 21, 2017 in the Colorado Convention Center. The live presentations will be held in the SME Press Room & Media Center, room #103, 4:00-5:45 pm, affording you an exclusive opportunity to report on the winning team.
