Stewart R. Wallace Memorial Library Flourishes
The Stewart R. Wallace Memorial Library located at SME headquarters continues acquisition of new and donated items. The inventory of more than 2,000 items has increased with long-time member Ray Lowrie’s donation of his personal technical library. Lowrie received the President’s Citation in 2004, was honored as a Distinguished Member in 2007 and became a Legion of Honor member in 2009. He edited one of SME’s most successful publications, the SME Mining Reference Handbook, and served as the Professional Engineers Exam Committee coordinator.
The library is named in honor of SME Distinguished Member and benefactor, Stewart R. Wallace. Upon his passing, Wallace bequeathed nearly $1 million to the Society, which enabled the SME staff to move to its present headquarters facility that now houses the library that bears his name.
A copy of every new SME publication is available in the library which is open to the public under staff supervision. In addition, research assistance and photocopies can be provided. Take a look at all the items offered in the Stewart R. Wallace Memorial Library’s online catalog.
