The second annual Move Mining competition is underway,
and this year it’s twice the fun!
Move Mining is the SME program that asks the question, “How can I change the world’s perception of mining?” Teams will submit a three-minute video and one-page abstract to SME by November 1, 2017, outlining their concept on how to implement a change or “move” the perception of mining forward in the world. Four finalists will be chosen by a consortium and one by People’s Choice. All five finalists will compete for a $5,000 cash prize during the 2018 SME Annual Conference & Expo.
New this year is Move Mining Next Gen, an online competition for K-12 participants. Teams will create three-minute videos that share their ideas about where minerals are found and mined, how we use them, why mining is important and careers in the mining industry. Four winners will be determined by committee and one by People’s Choice. The Best Overall Video will win a prize of $1,000!

| SME and CRIRSCO Reporting Standards Update |
On August 24-25, 2017, the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards ( CRIRSCO) sent a five-person delegation to Turkey to participate in a workshop on the development of a CRIRSCO Reporting Template-compatible code for reporting exploration results, mineral resources and mineral reserves. The delegation consisted of Harry Parker (representing the USA and SME), Roger Dixon (RSA), Baterdene Dash (Mongolia), Saule Urazayeva (Kazakhstan) and Felipe Alves (Brazil).
The workshop and meetings showed broad support from the Turkish government, the stock exchange, banking community and the mining industry to establish a CRIRSCO-template reporting code as a step in broadening the Turkish mining industry, with a goal of growing the GDP represented by the mining sector from 2 to 10 percent by 2023.
The aim of CRIRSCO is to promote high standards of reporting of mineral deposit estimates and of exploration progress. CRIRSCO and SME will continue to liaise with UMREK and are looking forward to welcoming Turkey as the first member from the Middle East and North Africa. Learn more about CRIRSCO on their website www.crirsco.com/welcome.asp.
