Public Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Reserves Short Course

Dr. Kwame Awuah-Offei, associate professor and interim director of mining engineering at Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T), recently served as a mining engineering academic fellow at and expert consultant to the US Securities & Exchange Commission to help the agency update mining property disclosure rules in Regulation S-K; on October 31, 2018 the SEC adopted those amendments. Dr. Awuah-Offei will be offering a course to aide in the transition to the new requirements, which companies must be in compliance with for the first fiscal year beginning on or after January 1, 2021.

This course is designed to help geoscientists and mining, geological, metallurgical and other engineers, who are or may be involved in mineral exploration or technical studies, to comply with ethics and regulatory standards (particularly, US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Regulation S-K subpart 1300).

At the end of this two-day course, participants should be able to: (i) report exploration results, mineral resources, and mineral reserves per the new SEC standards; and (ii) act with the highest professional and ethical standards when reporting exploration results, mineral resource, and mineral reserves. The course covers a range of topics necessary to transition from Industry Guide 7 to subpart 1300. The course starts with the definitions of key terms and basic principles of public disclosure (materiality, transparency and competence). It then uses these concepts to help the participant understand how to apply this consistently and ethically to various scenarios in order to comply with the law and professional ethical standards.
