Outstanding Student Chapter Annual Report Contest

Student chapters play an integral role in career planning and professional development.

Each year the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) recognizes outstanding achievement at the student chapter level by honoring the four top contestants in its Outstanding Student Chapter Contest.

A Student Chapter’s Annual Report is more than just a contest submission, it should serve as a concise representation of a Chapter’s achievements. The Report is equivalent to a report to the SME Board of Directors and should be produced as such. It should be professional in appearance, presentation and content.  The quality of the physical report as well as its contents is evaluated.  Reports should include elements of any quality written document including; correct English usage, formatting, layout, appearance, and integrity of data when compared to summary.

The winning chapter receives a $500 cash award, a certificate of recognition and a ticket to the awards banquet at the SME annual conference. The winning chapter also receives a travel allowance of up to $500 to offset travel expenses related to the meeting. The three runner-up chapters receive certificates of recognition. All entrants are recognized in Mining Engineering magazine.
