Purpose

The purpose of the Graduate Student Research Poster Contest is to recognize excellence in research in various minerals-related fields by SME. The contest will provide an opportunity for the graduate students to showcase their work in a visible setting and to compete for cash prizes based on the quality of their posters as determined by a team of judges. It is hoped that this will bolster graduate student education and contribute to research in mining and mineral studies.

Info

The Graduate Student Research Poster Contest is open to any SME student member who is currently enrolled in a minerals-related graduate program. The posters will be on display in a designated area in the vicinity of the exhibit hall for the duration of the exhibit. The contestants will be required to be present at a predetermined time to discuss their research with interested attendees and to answer questions posed by the judges. The judging team will consist of five members from academia, industry and government. A rubric for judging the posters will be prepared in advance of the contest and made available to the contestants.
