Lifetime Achievement Award

Nominations are being accepted for the UCA of SME Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the underground design and construction industry. The outstanding achievements recognized must have been accomplished through design and/or construction of civil underground facilities. The recipient must have contributed significantly to the education, planning, design, construction or rehabilitation of tunnels and underground facilities.

This includes seeking advances in new methods, materials, and advancing the public understanding and concurrence with the beneficial uses of underground space. The recipient must have a minimum of 20 years professional experience anywhere in the world and have spent most of his/her career in underground construction. The recipient should be a UCA of SME member in good standing at the time of the Award and shall be selected without regard to age, gender, race, religion, or nationality.

To nominate an individual for the Lifetime Achievement Award, send an email to awards@smenet.org with the following information:

  • Briefly describe how the nominee has significantly contributed to the education, planning, design, construction, or rehabilitation of tunnels and underground facilities.
  • Does the nominee have at least 20 years of professional experience, with the majority being in underground construction?
  • In 25 words or less create a citation to be inscribed on an award if the applicant is selected
  • Attach the nominee’s biography
  • Attach up to four letters of recommendation
  • Attach the nominee's resume

Deadline to submit your award nominations is October 31, 2019.
