This bulletin deals with: Location of dams, Site investigation, Design, Construction and operation, Closure and abandonment
This bulletin is intended primarily for the use of the Regulatory Agencies responsible for the safety of tailings dams, both structurally and environmentally. However, it is also intended to assist the mine operator in understanding the measures that must be adopted to ensure that his tailings dam is safe, both during operation and after rehabilitation. Finally, it should also benefit those individuals or organizations involved in the design, construction, operation, and rehabilitation of tailings dams.
For structures under the jurisdiction of the USBR, the design standards present clear and concise technical requirements and processes to enable design professionals to prepare design documents and reports necessary to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public.
Description for progress for advancement in Dam Engineering and construction
This manual presents guidance on procedures for use in the engineering design, construction monitoring, operation, and inspection of coal refuse impoundments and embankments in the United States.
This manual has been prepared to help practitioners design and construct small earth dams in rural areas. The manual is designed specifically for engineers, technicians and extension workers involved in agriculture, commercial farmers and contractors all with some understanding of engineering and some experience of dams, irrigation and water supply involved in the siting, design and construction of small earth dams in the drier parts of the African continent. Such dams are suitable for supplying water to irrigation schemes, for rural and other water supplies (when properly treated) and for conservation measures.
This document provides procedures and guidance for best practices concerning embankment dam flter design and construction and represents an effort to collect and disseminate current information and experience having a technical consensus. This document is intended for use by personnel familiar with embankment dams, such as designers, inspectors, construction oversight personnel, and dam safety engineers.
The publication is a set of practical guidelines and norms for field project engineers for the design and building of small hydraulic structures using earth and gabions. This publication would be useful in designing small earth dams with a gabion spillway, intake weirs for gravity irrigation schemes, groynes, river bed training works and for protection against hydraulic erosion
Short introduction to planning surveys and basic considerations for completing surveys. Additional guidance docs in the appendices.
