Richard Klimpel Memorial Scholarship (Mineral & Metallurgical Processing Division) undergraduate and graduate students The Mineral and Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD) of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration offers up to six scholarships on an annual basis to students interested in pursuing careers in the area of mineral processing.
McIntosh Engineering Scholarship and J.H. Fletcher & Co. Scholarship undergraduate students only The McIntosh Engineering Scholarship is awarded annually to up to six promising undergraduate students entering their junior year of an accredited undergraduate degree program in mining engineering with a focus on underground mining. The McIntosh Engineering Scholarship is a renewable scholarship with total potential funding of $12,000 per student: $5,000 for junior year and, subject to renewal approval, an additional $7,000 for senior year.

The J.H. Fletcher & Co. Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students pursuing an undergraduate degree in mining or minerals engineering, with a desire to use their skills to apply technology to improve safety and productivity in underground mining. Students pursuing degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering may also be considered if they are minoring in Mining Engineering or show a strong desire for a career in the underground mining industry.

Eligible students may submit one application in consideration for one or both of these scholarships. See the scholarship guidelines for more information.
Mining & Exploration Division Scholarship and Eugene P. Pfleider Scholarship undergraduate students only The Mining & Exploration (M&E) Division of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration annually awards scholarships to promising college students who have chosen as a career path the field of mining engineering. Applicants must be majoring in mining, geology, or other field of specialization covered by the M&E Division’s technical unit committees (Environmental Control & Reclamation, Geochemistry, Geology, Geomechanics, Geophysics, Hydrology, Open Pit Mining, Operations Research, Solution Mining, Underground Mining, and Underground Ventilation).

The Eugene P. Pfleider Memorial Scholarship is administered by the Mining & Exploration Division and is awarded on an annual basis to students pursuing careers in mining engineering.

Eligible students may submit one application in consideration for both of these scholarships. See the scholarship guidelines for more information.
MMSA/SMEF Presidential Scholarship undergraduate students only The Mining and Metallurgical Society of America and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration Foundation offer one significant scholarship (MMSA/SMEF Scholarship) on an annual basis to an outstanding student whose study program encompasses any aspect of the extractive minerals industry.
North American Tunneling Conference Scholarship undergraduate and graduate students The North American Tunneling (NAT) conference is one of the premier conferences to learn about the many different aspects of underground construction. NAT is organized by the Underground Construction Association (UCA) of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) and has a scholarship program to encourage students to learn more about underground construction. Selected applicants will be awarded full conference registration to the 2014 NAT conference, hotel accommodations, and round trip air fare. The selected applicants will also attend the UCA of SME breakfast to be recognized. Depending on project availability, there may be an opportunity to visit an underground works in the Los Angeles area.
Syd S. and Felicia F. Peng Ground Control in Mining Scholarship graduate students only The Syd S. and Felicia F. Peng Ground Control in Mining Scholarship (Peng Scholarship) was established in 2009 to promote the science of ground control. Recent trends in the mining engineering professional indicate that a shortage of competent ground control engineers exists. To help remedy this situation and promote the ground control engineering discipline, an undergraduate and/or graduate scholarship, or scholarships, will be awarded annually to encourage the development of ground control engineers.
