Brianna Detsoi, a student researcher from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and the Bureau of Geology, shares her passion for developing eco-friendly and affordable solutions to extract uranium from contaminated water sources. Originally from Montezuma Creek, Utah, Brianna’s research focuses on using humates, a plant-based material typically discarded after use in farming, to provide communities with a viable alternative to expensive and energy-intensive reverse osmosis systems.
