Segun Oladele, a Ph.D. student at The Pennsylvania State University and a native of Nigeria, shares his inspiring academic and professional journey in the mining and mineral processing industry. From a childhood moment watching gold prices rise on TV to earning a fully funded Erasmus Mundus scholarship, Segun's passion for mining engineering has taken him across continents; from Nigeria to Finland, Austria, Chile, Germany, and now the United States.
With nearly a decade of industry experience, Segun emphasizes the importance of networking, hands-on learning, and mentorship. He highlights how organizations like SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration) provide invaluable opportunities for students to connect with professionals, gain practical experience, and receive mentorship in their field of interest—whether it’s flotation, underground mining, or metallurgy.
