Mining in Society Merit Badge

SME and the MEC worked with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to develop the Mining in Society merit badge

As part of our ongoing educational outreach program, Scouts will learn about the mining industry and its impact on their lives.

The reinstatement of a mining-related merit badge with Boy Scouts of America introduces scouts to the mining industry in a fair and fun way as they are making decisions about their educational directions in pursuit of their future careers. Whether or not the youth who earn the merit badge ever have employment directly related to mining, they will certainly be the decision-makers of tomorrow. It benefits everyone that they are provided with factual, non-biased information as they consider what will be the tough issues in this country in years to come.
