SME Nominations

Each year the SME Nominating Committee reviews qualified candidates for positions on the board and strategic committees. We value creating a candidate pool that includes active SME members with diverse interests, backgrounds, experience, and education, and who are from different geographic regions, industry areas, and specialties.

 

Submit nominations to Genny Homyack (homyack@smenet.org) by July 1 annually.


Open Nominations 

Nominations are sought annually for the following roles:

  • SME President (term as President-Elect begins 2 years from current year)
  • Two SME Board Directors-at-large (terms begin 2 years from current year) 
  • SME Committee Members (terms begin serving immediately following the next annual meeting):
    • Strategic Committees (two members each): Association Growth, Industry Innovation, Industry Workforce, Responsible Mining and Underground Construction
    • Standing Committees (two members each): Audit, Finance and Structure & Governance

Nomination Requirements

  • Be a current SME member. 
  • Commit to attending a minimum of two in-person committee meetings annually, held in conjunction with the MINEXCHANGE SME Annual Conference & Expo and the SME Midyear Meeting. SME Board Members may have additional meeting requirements. 
  • These meetings must be made a priority over any other SME meetings. 
  • Desire a greater involvement in the leadership of the Society. 
  • In addition, nominees for the SME President and Board of Directors must show a record of service to the Society, including previous service on the Board or other Committees reporting to the Board, have held senior positions with a record of accomplishments within their industry, demonstrate a willingness to bear the financial burdens of travel to meetings, and have a desire to serve the Society as a whole and not to act as a representative of a narrower constituency within the membership of the Society.

What to Submit 

Nominees for all positions must submit the following: 

  • Bio (300 words or less) 
  • Resume (3 pages maximum) 
  • Headshot 
  • Statement including history of SME involvement, why you want to be on the board or committee (please specify which committee), and a commitment to attend all meetings and make this committee a priority.

About the Nomination Process 

Please forward any recommendations to Genny Homyack, Board Relations Administrator and Executive Assistant at homyack@smenet.org no later than July 1. To see a current list of SME Board Members, please visit the About Us page on the SME website. All material will be collected, vetted for qualifications, and submitted to the SME Nominating Committee for review. Final selection will take place at the SME Midyear Meeting. Nominees will be informed of their selection in November.
